Nick Shepherd is Programme Director for Setting God’s People Free for the Church of England. This role is a senior post in the National Church Institutions directing a culture change initiative of the Archbishop’s Council – to inspire the whole people of God to play their part in a renewed church, active in God’s mission across all sectors of our society and in all communities.
Nick holds an MTh in Urban Ministry from Spurgeon’s College and has been involved in leading various expressions of evangelism and mission. His doctoral research at King’s College London was on young people’s faith and identity; drawing on ethnographic and educational research methods. His book Faith Generation (SPCK, 2016) is based on this research and looks at faith formation in a secular age. Nick continues to be active in research in this field as well as in the interface between theology, organizational change and leadership. In particular in the use of Theological Action Research for these areas of discipleship & ministry.
Nick is a regular speaker at conferences and events on discipleship, leadership and mission, as well as in areas of academic practical theology. Nick is a licensed lay minister (Reader) in the Church of England.
Nick is a Trustee for the Southwark Diocese Board of Education and former chair of trustees for the International Association for the Study of Youth ministry.
Nick is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts and Manufacturing Sciences and is particularly engaged with the Future of Work programme.
